I‘m excited to announce that I am officially a published author! My new book, The Coffee Date Guide to Freelance Journalism is now available on Amazon. Yes, I’ve self published and yes my book is only available in e-book format, but it’s thrilling nonetheless. I have three unedited historical novel manuscripts languishing on my hard drive, and I always thought one of those would be my first published book. But as it turns out, once my fiancé mentioned that I should write an e-book series teaching people how to become freelance writers, the idea stuck and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I spent the next few weeks hammering out the draft of the first book in the four book series, and finally hit publish about a week after we arrived in South Korea.
Here’s the book description:
What’s inside The Coffee Date Guide to Freelance Journalism?
– Questions and answers from real coffee dates
– The lingo of freelancing
– What types of articles magazines are looking for
– Writer’s websites…should you have one?
– How to find ideas
– What is a query and who to send it to
– Payment and invoicing details
– Sample queries
– Writer’s resources
– And more…
I’m hard at work on the second book, The Coffee Date Guide to Travel Writing, which is slated to release on December 5th.

I just downloaded it! I’m looking forward to reading about your experiences and advice. I studied traditional journalism in university and I’m trying to branch into freelance.
Thanks Derek! I really hope you enjoy the book. And if you do, will you please consider leaving a review? The second one, The Coffee Date Guide to Travel Writing will be released this Friday! I plan to have some pricing specials before Christmas, so I’ll keep you posted if you’re interested! 🙂
I absolutely will write a review! In fact I’m starting another blog strictly devoted to writing and books! I started it this afternoon while the kid was asleep. Great info already and it got me fired up to write 🙂
